Description
Description
NASA's EML-2 paddlewheel-free electromagnetic speed sensor is a reliable speed measurement system for motorboats and sailboats. The sensor for boats does not require a paddlewheel, preventing blockage by mussels or debris. It generates an alternating magnetic field beneath the boat, which generates an electric field when moving over ground.
Encoder with practical features
The speed sensor's backlight is easy on the eyes in low-light conditions. The practical PVC protective cap protects it from dirt and scratches when not in use. The sensor can be mounted in the cockpit or on the outside helm station—depending on your individual needs. A user-friendly interface is included, displaying conditions such as boat speed, route, and total distance. The display also provides a large and clear SOG view.
Features :
- Display of speed, daily and total miles
- Large digital display with large digits
- Backlight dimmable in 20 steps
- Suitable for cockpit mounting or external control station
- Speed measuring range: 0.2 – 40 knots
- NMEA 0183 data sets: VLW + VHW
- Update rate: 0.5 Hz
- Total mileage counter up to 9999 NM
- Power consumption approx. 80 mA at 12 V
- Installation diameter of encoder flange: 51 mm
- Sensor connection cable: length 5 m
Note : The NASA EML-2 speed sensor is designed exclusively for installation in the outer skin of fiberglass hulls. Steel or aluminum hulls would interfere with the sensor's electromagnetic field. Because the sensor is made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic, it must never be installed in wooden hulls, as swelling of the material could cause damage.
