Wind direction indicator

(3 products)

Wind direction indicators, also called swashplates, reliably indicate the wind direction using arrows or flags, but without degrees. For accurate angle measurements, a wind measuring system is necessary. Especially in changing wind directions, swashplates are essential for sailors to optimally adjust course and sail position.

  • Mounting locations and variants of wind direction indicators

Signal lights are usually mounted on the masthead, but depending on the boat class, they may also be mounted on the lower end of the mast or on the bow. Smaller catamarans often mount them on the lower end of the mast stay. There are also shroud signal lights, which are attached to the shrouds or backstay at eye level for better visibility.

  • Trim aids for fine steering and optimal sail position

For even more precise steering and improved sail adjustment, trim threads, also called tell-tales, are popular. These are attached at different heights on the sail's leech or stern and help sailors optimally align the sails.
