winches

(2 products)

Winches are indispensable tools on board, making handling lines, halyards, and sheets much easier. They reduce the effort required to operate the lines, thus ensuring greater safety and comfort. At awn, you'll find a wide selection of winches and matching accessories for every boat size and requirement.

  • Function and variants of winches

The heart of a winch is the planetary gear, which prevents reverse running through several interlocking gears and pawls. Winches are available as manual, electric, or hydraulic models, with one or more gears. For smaller boats, a single-speed winch is usually sufficient, while larger boats benefit from self-tailing multi-speed winches.

  • Choosing the right winch size and self-tailer

The right size winch depends on the sail area and the weight of the boat. A self-tailer facilitates handling by securely inserting and holding the line into the upper rim without the need for a stopper. This also protects against injuries caused by trapped fingers or clothing. We offer winches in stainless steel, chrome, aluminum, or carbon.

  • Winch accessories – cranks, grease and more

In addition to winches, awn also offers practical accessories such as winch handles that make turning and tensioning lines easier. We also carry winch grease, protective covers (winch covers), handle bags, and service kits with pawls and springs for the maintenance and care of your winch equipment.
