    Halyard stoppers are usually installed on the port and starboard sides of the companionway, allowing multiple lines to be controlled centrally from the cockpit (piano). The line is routed through the halyard stopper and secured with a clamping lever. Most halyard stoppers allow the line to be retracted without opening the lever; to release, the lever is simply flipped up. Halyard stoppers are available in single and multiple versions.
