Description
Description
The McMurdo PLB FastFind ReturnLink emergency beacon signals the person in danger that the transmitted distress signal has been received. It utilizes the unique functionality of the Return Link Service (RLS) generated by Galileo satellites. A blue LED signal confirms receipt of the 406 MHz distress signal and the Galileo GNSS location coordinates.
Functional distress beacon
The McMurdo FastFind ReturnLink PLB transmits and receives multiple signals simultaneously: It transmits at 406 MHz via Cospas Sarsat to the worldwide professional emergency services. At the same time, it receives GNSS coordinates from Galileo and GPS satellites and transmits at 406 MHz. This allows the distress beacon to regularly update its location. Once the location fix is confirmed, the PLB transmitter receives the Galileo RLS signal and activates the blue LED.
