Description
He is in the middle of the toughest race in the world – he is the first German to sail alone and non-stop in the Vendèe Globe, inspiring non-sailors as well and delivering an impressive and thrilling race on the oceans. There is no doubt about it: Boris Herrmann is currently the brightest star in the German extreme sailing firmament. Back in 2009, the likeable northern German won the Portimão Global Ocean Race with co-skipper Felix Oehme and was hailed as the fastest sailor in the world by YACHT magazine. The Barcelona World Race followed in 2011. On his aged sailboat NEUTROGENA, Boris Herrmann crossed the finish line of the regatta after exactly 100 days and took fifth place, with the youngest team and the greatest courage. Herrmann conquered the course non-stop, without stopping in port for repairs or intermediate stops.
But he is also the man who sailed Greta Thunberg to the climate summit in New York – because the fight against climate change is at least as important to him as sailing at the limit, against time and against strong competition.
