Description
Description
Protecting, monitoring, and controlling a battery system is critical to creating a safe, reliable, and easy-to-use system. The MG Master HV is the battery system's safety and control unit. It protects the connected battery modules from overcharging, overdischarging, overtemperature, and undertemperature, and controls battery cell balancing. In addition to its safety function, the Master HV monitors and tracks other important parameters to provide insight into battery status and energy consumption. Its compact design makes it ideal for use in applications with limited space.

Power connections
Power connectors allow the Master HV to easily connect a series of batteries. The Amphenol PowerLok connectors are robust and feature an integrated HVIL (High Voltage Interlock Loop) for connection monitoring. The low contact resistance allows for continuous currents of up to 500 A. The PowerLok connectors are robust and feature an integrated HVIL (High Voltage Interlock Loop) for connection monitoring.
Monitoring and control
Critical parameters are monitored by the master HV, such as cell voltages and temperatures of each connected battery module. A set of thresholds is defined to establish limits. Several thresholds are defined for each monitored parameter. First, a control threshold, which controls chargers or loads. Second, a warning threshold, and third, a critical fault, which opens the safety contactors and interrupts the current path from the batteries to the loads and chargers. A well-integrated system never opens its safety contactors during normal operation.
Software for diagnostic tools
Battery system diagnostics are important during commissioning, system testing, service, maintenance, and troubleshooting. The diagnostic tools provide all detailed information about the battery system. Key values, such as voltage, current, and state of charge, can be displayed and logged to a file. Furthermore, detailed battery information can be displayed, such as cell voltages, all temperature sensors, firmware version, etc. In addition to this information, historical values and stored events can also be read from the master. To provide greater flexibility, settings can be configured, for example, selecting the CAN bus protocol or adding a function to a dedicated output.
